Basic Law Enforcement Academy

The Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to present the Regular Basic Academy in an Extended Modular Format. The Academy is designed to provide contemporary and practical classroom presentation of legal concepts, hands-on training in police tactics and weapons usage, and scenario-based learning activities. Participants in this course will engage in physically demanding training exercises that include a risk of injury. Prospective students must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid CA driver license, obtain medical clearance, and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance letter.

Completed application packets may be turned into the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center's Administrative Office, located at 5146 Arnold Avenue, McClellan, CA 95652 or Northern CA Regional Public Safety Training College, C/O Los Rios Academy, located at 2409 Dean Street, McClellan, CA 95652, by the posted deadlines.

Modules and Dates

January 11, 2020 - March 12, 2020 Module III consists of 185 instructional hours

Upon successful completion of Module III the student will receive a Certificate of Completion and 6.0 units of lower division elective credit and may apply as a Level III reserve duty with a participating law enforcement agency.

Subject matter includes but is not limited to: professional orientation, community relations, criminal law, laws of evidence, communications, vehicle operations, force and weaponry, traffic enforcement, First Aid/ CPR, criminal investigation, custody, physical fitness, and defense techniques.

Applicants who have completed Mod III and are returning within 1 year are required, by POST, to pass the Mod III end course examination prior to admittance. This may be accomplished by submitting an application and contacting the Academy to reserve a seat for the Mod III end of course exam scheduled for March 5, 2019. Details will be provided when the Academy is contacted.

March 23, 2019 - June 20, 2019: Module II consists of 269.5 instructional hours

Upon successful completion of Module II, the student will receive a Certificate of Completion and 8.0 units of lower division elective credit and may apply as a Level II reserve duty with a participating law enforcement agency.
Subject matter includes but not limited to: property crimes, laws of arrest, community relations, criminal law, investigative report writing, laws of evidence, force and weaponry, traffic enforcement, criminal investigation, custody, physical fitness, and defense techniques.

November 27, 2018 - January 3, 2019: Module III (DAPO) consists of 167 instructional hours

Upon successful completion on Module III the student will receive a Certificate of Completion and 6 units of lower division elective credit and may apply as a Level III reserve duty with a participating law enforcement agency.
Subject matter includes but not limited to: professional orientation, community relations, criminal law, laws of evidence, communications, vehicle operations, force and weaponry, traffic enforcement, First Aid/ CPR, criminal investigation, custody, physical fitness, and defense techniques.
