BRADEN WINS BIG LEAGUE DEBUT

Former American River College standout
Dallas Braden (03) won his major league debut with the Oakland A’s
today as the A’s beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2. Dallas allowed just
one run on three hits in six innings of work while striking out six.
Dallas is the most recent graduate from the Big 7 Conference or Bay
Valley Conference to reach the Big Leagues since Johnny Gomes made
it up with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays two years ago. Gomes played at
Santa Rosa J.C. in 2001.

DALLAS BRADEN TO MAKE BIG LEAGUE
DEBUT TONIGHT
Former
American River College standout Dallas Braden (03) will make his
major league debut for the Oakland Athletics tonight versus the
Baltimore Orioles. Dallas came to A.R.C. from Stagg High School
in Stockton and was a two way player, playing both center field
and pitching. After A.R.C. Dallas played one year at Texas Tech
University before being a 24th round draft pick of
the A’s. In his two years at A.R.C. Dallas was 12-6 with an ERA
of 2.50 and he hit .305 in 95 career at-bats.
"I couldn’t be happier for Dallas,
he is a great competitor who had to go against the odds to make
it to where he is." says Beaver Head Coach Doug Jumelet,
who was an assistant in 2002 & 2003.

RINAUDO SIGNS WITH UNLV
American River
College utility player Steve Rinaudo signed a National Letter of
Intent (NLI) to play at the University of Nevada Las Vegas next
year it was announced on Thursday by Head Coach Doug Jumelet.
Rinaudo will join current Beaver teammate Ryan Thornton at UNLV
next fall. Rinaudo joins fellow Beavers Thornton, Jose Ramirez
(Sac State), and Robert Butler (South Dakota State) as
sophomores who have signed Letters of Intent for 2008.
“I am
extremely proud of Steve. He has had a great career here at
A.R.C. and he deserves to go to a top-notch program like UNLV.
It will be really neat to see him Ryan go and play for a fellow
Beaver alumni (Buddy Gouldsmith- 89) and keep that A.R.C. to
UNLV tradition alive. It has been a pleasure to coach Steve
these last two years and when he is gone he will truly be
irreplaceable”, says Coach Jumelet.
Steve is
currently on the verge of breaking into the top 5 in several
A.R.C. career offensive records including hits and stolen bases.
4TH ANNUAL ALUMNI DAY ANOTHER
SUCCESS
The weather was perfect for the 4th
annual American River College Baseball Alumni B.P. and Blue vs.
White intrasquad at Beaver Field on Saturday. The A.R.C. baseball
alumni took batting practice at 10:00 a.m. which saw home runs hit
by Andy Dahl (03), David Ferazza (03), Jimmy Crider (04), and Dan
Vetter (93). The Blue vs. White intrasquad turned into a lopsided
affair with the white team winning 12-1 thanks to a 7 run 7th
inning. The blue team scored their only run on a solo home run by
freshman C Ian Cook (Ponderosa). Immediately following the game was
a free barbecue for the alumni, the 2007 Beavers and their family
which was catered by O’Connors Catering of Carmichael for the 4th
year in a row. The 2007 Beavers begin their season Tuesday, January
30 at Solano College in Fairfield at 2:00 p.m.

INTRASQUAD SET FOR JAN. 27
The 4th annual American River
College alumni batting practice is set for Saturday, January 27 at
10:00 a.m. Following the batting practice the 2007 Beaver squad will
have their annual Blue vs. White intrasquad game, scheduled for six
innings will begin at noon. There will be a barbecue for the current
team, their families and the alumni immediately following the
intrasquad game. All alumni are invited and encouraged to attend the
event or to contact Coach Jumelet at (916) 484-8294.
IRONMEN !!!!
The American River College baseball team
had their 2nd annual strong man team competition on
Thursday, January 18 with Team #1 being victorious. Team #1 included
Ryan Thornton, Steve Camillucci, Chris Kidd, and Mike Vanderpool.
The events included running the stadium hills pulling a tire, a
relay race, a medicine ball toss, an obstacle course, and the bench
press set at 185 pounds. The team that won each event was awarded
four points, with 3 points for the 2nd place team, 2 for
3rd, and 1 point for last place. Team #1 had 16 points
followed by 14 points for team #4, 11 points for team #3, and team
#2 finished in last with 9 points.
