I have been teaching full-time at American River College since Fall 2003. Prior to my employment at ARC, I was a full-time Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at CSU-Chico between Fall 1999-Spring 2003. I completed my undergraduate degree in developmental psychology in 1994 at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil (country of origin). Soon after, I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to attend graduate school at the University of Utah. I completed my master's degree in developmental psychology in Fall 1997 and my Ph.D. degree in developmental psychology in Spring 2000.

In addition to teaching at ARC, I am Chair of the Psychology Department and a faculty co-advisor of the ARC Psi Beta club (a National Honors Society in Psychology for Community Colleges) supporting students' research projects and community services projects. I'm also actively  engaged in the ARC Reading Apprenticeship Project l also engage students in my research project examining change processes in mother-infant relationships, focusing more specifically on the study of positive emotions over the course of the first seven months of the infant's life. Outside campus, I am also a member of the Western Psychological Association Council, which helps me stay connected with Psychology colleagues in the region and get involved in relevant professional development opportunities.  For more information on my academic history, see my Curriculum Vitae here.

At a more personal note, I enjoy cooking (and eating), hosting parties, volunteering at my son's school, traveling abroad, and hanging out with my husband, my 9 year-old son Aidan, and my 12 year-old canine daughter Daisy.
