Assessment
Assessment of program level student learning outcomes (SLOs) relies on American River College's annual cycle of course-level SLO assessment. This strategy is supported by the Curriculum and SLO Committee’s diligent review of each program's required courses, which includes a requirement that all program SLOs explicitly map to (or are clearly supported by) one or more of the required courses for a degree or a certificate requiring six or more units. These SLO program mapping matrices are created from the curriculum site and imported into the Program SLO Linguistic Analysis Tool. The program mapping matrices are verified by departments during their program review (Fall 2021 onward) and any revisions are reviewed by the members of the SLO Assessment committee.
Measuring Outcomes
Oversight of the faculty's continuous review of student achievement of course SLOs is accomplished using the Authentic Assessment Review Record (AARR), in which faculty record student achievement of specific SLOs based on one or more authentic assessments that they regularly perform in their classes.
Disciplines are continuously engaged in reviewing student achievement of course SLOs through the annual cycle of documentation of assessment, planning and implementation. Faculty record student achievement for a randomly assigned course SLO based on one or more authentic assessments that they regularly perform in their classes. The aggregated results are then reviewed annually as part of Annual Unit Planning, in which the results serve as the basis for actions and, if applicable, resource allocation, and are aligned with college goals and objectives. Completion of the first cycle for all disciplines using the Authentic Assessment Review Record occurred in Fall 2017 and was completed on a three year cycle until Spring 2019 when it was changed to an annual cycle.
