9-11 credit is ¾-time
6-8 credits is ½-time
4-5 credits is less than ½-time (<½-time)
1-3 credits is ¼-time or less (<¼-time)

Rate of Pursuit (Chapter 33)
VA calculates rate of pursuit based on the training time reported by the school.
The monthly housing allowance is paid if rate of pursuit is more than 50%.
12 units – 100% rate of pursuit – receive 100% of BAH
11 units – 91% rate of pursuit – receive 90% of BAH
10 units – 83% rate of pursuit – receive 80% of BAH
9 units – 75% rate of pursuit – receive 80% of BAH
8 units – 67% rate of pursuit – receive 70% of BAH
7 units – 58% rate of pursuit – receive 60% of BAH
6 units - 50 % rate of pursuit - NO BAH
Effective October 1, 2011 monthly housing allowance benefits are payable to students (other than those on active duty) enrolled solely in distance learning, at one-half the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents.
