Educational Benefits

 Important:

ARC Veterans Services does not determine eligibility for education benefits. All students that feel they may be eligible should apply or contact the Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-888-442-4551 or www.gibill.va.gov.

 

Chapter 30 - Active Duty (MGIB-AD)

Active Duty (Chapter 30) benefits may be available to anyone who entered active duty after June 30, 1985 and contributed money to their GI Bill.

Or

Qualified under Chapter 34 (Vietnam-era GI Bill) and were still eligible on Dec. 31, 1989 or elected to change from Chapter 32 to Chapter 30.

 

Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation

Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31) benefits may be available to those veterans with a service-connected disability. Any veterans that feel they are eligible must first meet with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC). The VRC will help to select a plan to address the educational needs of the veteran.

Please meet with a counselor before completing the ARC required documents. The VRC will need to forward authorization (VA form 28-1905) of payment for each semester.

Chapter 32 - Post-Vietnam Era Veterans' Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

Post-Vietnam Era Veterans' Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) - Chapter 32 benefits may be available to anyone that served on active duty from January 1, 1977 through June 30, 1985, AND either contributed funds or had their service branch make contributions for them.

 

Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 or New GI Bill

As of August 1, 2009, the Post-9/11 GI Bill became effective for training. The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable dischange to be eligibe for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. This benefit is payable only for training at an Institution of Highter Learing (IHL). This benefit provides up to 36 months of educational benefits and is generally payable for 15 years following your release from active duty. Based on your length of active duty service, you are entitled to a percentage of the benefit. (See pay rates) This benefit offers some service members the opportinity to transfer their GI Bill to dependents.

Chapter 35 - Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA)

Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) - Chapter 35 benefits may be available to anyone that is a child (between ages 18 and 26, with some exceptions) or spouse of a veteran who is permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition; or who died in service; or who died of a service-connected disability; or who is listed as a POW or MIA.

 

Chapters 1606 - Selected Reserve & 1607 - REAP

The Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) benefits may be available to anyone who is currently fulfilling a 6-year obligation to a branch of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Reserve, in addition to the Army National Guard and Air National Guard.

 

REAP (Chapter 1607) benefits may be available to anyone who is a member of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty for 90 days or more in response to a war or national emergency (contingency operation) as declared by the President or Congress. Members may be eligible after serving 90 consecutive days on active duty after September 11, 2001.

 

Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance is not processed through the Veterans Service Office. Tuition Assistance applications, policies, and procedures may be obtained by your active duty/reserve unit's education service office. Once you have completed the appropriate paperwork, please contact the Business Services Office at 916-484-8481 regarding payment procedures.
