VA calculates rate of pursuit based on the training time reported by the school.

The monthly housing allowance is paid if the rate of pursuit is more than 50%.

12 units - 100% rate of pursuit - receive 100% of BAH

11 units - 91% rate of pursuit - receive 90% of BAH

10 units - 83% rate of pursuit - receive 80% of BAH

9 units - 75% rate of pursuit - receive 80% of BAH

8 units - 67% rate of pursuit - receive 70% of BAH

7 units - 58% rate of pursuit - receive 60% of BAH

6 units - 50 % rate of pursuit - NO BAH

Effective October 1, 2011 monthly housing allowance benefits are payable to students (other than those on active duty) enrolled solely in distance learning (online), at one-half the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents.
