Rachel Elizabeth Damiano
Awarded the UCLA 2016-17Ricciardi TAP Scholars Award
Awarded the Prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Award
Lucia Gwarada has been selected to received the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. She was one of 90 scholars selected this year among over 1,000 prospective transfer students throughout the U.S. The scholarship award is up to $40,000 per year and is intended to cover a significant share of the student's educational expenses - including tuition, living expenses, book and required fees. Lucia in an international student from Zimbabwe, majoring in biochemistry with the goal of medical school. She will be attending California State University, Sacramento. She attributes her success and support to the International Students office staff and last year's ARC recipient, Edna Simbi.
Awarded the Los Rios Chancellor's Academic Excellence Award
The 2015 Chancellor's Academic Excellence Award, which recognizes Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) students, was awarded to Jennifer Diamond. Jennifer is a biology major, focused on the natural world. She plans to further her knowledge of how ecological systems work together within the environment. Jennifer was admitted to UC Davis via the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program and will major in evolution, ecology and biodivesity. She was recently awarded the UC Davis Regents Scholarship as well. Jennifer has been a Beacon tutor, and a MESA tutor and program assistant. She was an active participant in MESA, participating in math/chemistry boot camps and the annual MESA Leadership Retreat in Santa Cruz.
Awarded UC Berkeley Regents and Chancellor's Scholarship
Carlisha Washington was awarded the Regents and Chancellor's Scholarship upon her admission to UC Berkeley. Carlisha is majoring in sociology and was also admitted to UC Davis, UCLA, UC Riverside and UC San Diego. The award includes priority registration, paid fees, housing and a research fellowship. Carlisha served as a student assistant at the ARC Veterans Resource Center. She also was a participant in the UC Berkeley Transfer Alliance Program (TAP).
