The Health Center may be utilized by all current ARC students, faculty and staff.

Do I need an appointment to see a nurse?
Most services are provided on a drop-in basis. However, appointments to discuss a specific problem are preferred. Appointments are required for hearing and vision screening and for smoking cessation consultations. TB testing is available by walk-in on Mondays. During the school year, immunizations are available by walk-in on Mondays and Wednesdays. Immunizations and TB tests are available by appointment only on the remaining days of the week. The nurses provide concurrent services, and are on call to respond to campus emergencies, it is always advisable to call to ensure a nurse is available at the time you plan to visit the Health Center. NOTE: During the summer, nurse-on-duty hours vary. Contact the Health Center to verify availability of services.

What is the cost to use the ARC Health Center?
Most health services are free. Fees are charged for copies of medical records, immunizations, TB skin tests and for blood test titers.

Does the ARC Health Center provide health insurance?
The ARC Health Center does not provide health insurance. We encourage all students to obtain health insurance, however. We have information available on various types of student health and dental plans in our office and on our web page. Contact the Sacramento County Department of Health & Human Services at (916) 874-2072 to determine your eligibility for government assistance programs.

I have no health insurance. Where can I go if I am sick?
The Health Center has information about health care, mental health, dental and other resources available in our community. You may also contact Sacramento County Clinic Services at (916) 874-8912. Fees may be charged according to eligibility and services provided. The county clinics are not emergency care facilities. If you have an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Can I get a physical examination at the ARC Health Center?
Although physical examinations are not available at the ARC Health Center, staff can refer you to health care providers in the community. You will, of course, be responsible for any fees incurred for services received from those providers.

Do you provide birth control, or test for pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted diseases at the ARC Health Center?
Many reproductive health services, such as pregnancy testing, STD testing, rapid HIV testing, birth control, and emergency contraception are available Monday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. by appointment or walk-in basis. These services are free to those who qualify. Call the ARC Health Center at (916) 484-8383 to schedule an appointment.

Can I get prescriptions from the ARC Health Center?
The Health Center does not write or fill prescriptions for medication.

What types of hearing and vision tests are available in the Health Center?
Hearing and vision screenings are done by appointment. If the screening indicates a potential problem with either hearing or vision, you may be referred for further testing. If you have a known hearing or vision deficit, please follow up with your medical provider.

Can I get an absence note from the ARC Health Center?
The Health Center DOES NOT provide absence notes to instructors. It is your responsibility to contact the instructor if you are going to miss a class.

What kind of health information is available in the Health Center? (Pamphlets, etc.)
The Health Center has TONS of information on various health problems, topics and resources. However, there may be times when information requested is not readily available. In those instances, we will do whatever we can to help you find accurate, reliable information. You can also look up information through "Health Links" located on the Home Page of our website.
