Q.  I heard that the financial aid office is changing how I will receive my money? What is going on?

A. To better serve our entire student population, the college is making more
options available for student to receive their financial aid funds. Starting October 1, 2010, the college will contract with Higher One, a financial management company, to assist in disbursing funds to financial aid students. Prior to October 1, 2010, students have only the ability to receive their financial aid funds in the form of a paper check via the U.S. Postal Service. Starting October 1, 2010, students will be able to choose to receive their financial aid funds by paper check, direct deposit into their current bank account or select “Easy Refund®” by opening a OneAccount with Higher One.

Q.  Why is the college changing the method of delivering financial aid disbursements?

A. Based on a district-wide student survey, a large portion of the student
population wanted to have the ability to receive their aid through direct deposit or electronically. The new process provides students with the option of receiving their aid by direct deposit into their current checking account, opening up a OneAccount with Higher One and using a debit card, or if the student likes they will still have the option of receiving their financial aid in a paper check via U.S. postal service.

Q.  What do I - the student - need to do to get paid?

A. Once you receive the LRCCD OneCard in the mail – it will be mailed in a bright green envelope – go to www.LRCCDOneCard.com and select how you want to receive your financial aid. You will need the card to enter the 16 digits and hit “GO” and answer the questions. Typically, it will take you an estimated 30 minutes to complete the process.

Q.  Am I required to open an Account with Higher One?

A. Although you will need to make a selection on how you want to receive your financial aid funds i.e. direct deposit, open a OneAccount, or receive it by paper check, you are not required to open a OneAccount. However, the quickest way to receive your funds is by opening a OneAccount. I recommend that you carefully review all three options before selecting your preference. If you make a selection and later change your mind you can go back to www.LRCCDOneCard.com and change your preference.

Q.  What if I threw my card away accidently before I made my preference?

A. If you lose or throw away your LRCCD OneCard before you select how you want to receive your aid, you will need to go to the financial aid office and request a replacement card. You must have a LRCCD OneCard in order to make your selection on how you want to receive your financial aid.

Q.  What if my address changes? Who should I contact?

A. If you lose your LRCCD OneCard prior to making your selection, you should contact your college financial aid office. If you lose your LRCCD OneCard after you have gone on line at www.LRCCDOneCard.com and made your selection then you would want to contact Higher One. They can be contact via their customer care center on line or by calling 877-334-1015.

Q.  What is the fastest way to receive my financial aid money?

A. The fastest way to receive your funding is to open a OneAccount with Higher One by selecting the “easy refund” option on the www.LRCCDOneCard.com website. Remember, you must have the LRCCD OneCard that is mailed in the bright green envelope before you can make this selection.

Q.  When will I receive my LRCCD OneCard?

A. Once you have completed the FAFSA, submitted a current enrollment application, and enrolled in classes, the financial aid office will automatically initiate you being sent a card. You do not need to do anything special. Make sure your mailing address is correct and that you activate your campus iMail account. You will first receive an email that the card is being sent to you and the address that it is being sent and then you will receive the card in 5-7 mailing days.

Q.  Can I still receive a check?

A. Yes! You can still receive a check, but you must still go to www.LRCCDOneCard.com and let us know that you want to still receive a check. If you do not inform us of your preference, it will delay you receiving your aid.

Q.  What if I have been turned down by banks to open a checking account?
       Will I be allowed to open a OneAccount bank account?

A. Yes! All students attending a college at ARC, CRC, FLC, or SCC will be able to open an account.

Q.  What if I already have a checking account?

A. Great! You can have your financial aid funds sent directly to your current bank account. You can also open a new bank account with OneAccount, or still receive a paper check. You must go to www.LRCCDOneCard.com and let us know how you want to receive your financial aid funds.

Q.  Will I need to activate a card every time I receive a financial aid disbursement?

A. No. Once you have made your choice on how you want to receive your funds, you will not be required to update it for 5 years. However, you will always have the ability to change your preference at any time.

Q.  If I drop a class, will my tuition be refunded through the new process?

A. No. The new process is exclusively for your financial aid disbursements. If you drop your classes you will need to request a refund of your tuition through the same process as in prior semester.
