Employment Opportunities

In order to apply, all applicants must be in good academic standing. If so, you must:

Submit your Student Aide Application, and participate in a mandatory orientation to go over DSPS guidelines and policies for support services.

In order to be entitled for any monetary compensation, you must be enrolled in a minimum of six units at American River College and complete all payroll forms prior to the first day of your assigned work.

How to Apply:

Pick up Application at the DSPS office.
Complete and return application to the DSPS office.
You will be contacted for an interview. Following that appointment, you may be scheduled for orientation/payroll processing.

Hiring Process:

You will receive a student aide orientation and be processed for payroll (if needed). Volunteers will complete volunteer release form. DSPS staff will determine your starting date. You may receive an assignment sheet during your appointment time or may be instructed to check back at a later time for the initial assignment.
NOTE: You will be notified if additional student(s) have been assigned to you.

Please be aware of the following:

If you are hired on a paid status, then you must complete all payroll paperwork prior to the first day of employment. We cannot pay you if your paperwork is missing or incomplete.

You must check in with the DSPS office once a week.

The DSPS office staff will determine the hours per week that you are authorized to work with your clients. Your weekly hours will also be indicated on your assignment sheet. Please do not exceed your assigned weekly hours. Additional hours will not be paid.


You must exchange phone numbers with your clients and contact them ahead of time if you are unable to make an appointment.

In case of an emergency, phone the DSPS Office (484-8382) if you cannot make it to a scheduled appointment. You may leave a voice mail message for the staff at any time.

We cannot pay you for tutoring any students whom we have not yet approved.
