MATH and STAT Prerequisite Information

Click here to jump to information about STAT 300

Beginning with Summer 2012, high school coursework will no longer satisfy prerequisites for Mathematics courses at ARC.

As of November 10, 2011, a printout from ARC's Self-Assessment in Math (SAM) will no longer allow you to place into any ARC math courses, even if the printout was made or the Self-Assessment was completed before that date. See below for further explanation.

If you have a high school transcript or a printout from SAM that you were planning to use to satisfy the prerequisite for a math course in Spring 2012 (or later), you will have to replace it with one of the following:

Note: If you have already taken a math course within Los Rios, or if you have ANY recent college transcript with a math course on it, then you should choose your next math course based on the results of that course.

Further explanation: We have been forced to discontinue use of high school transcripts and ARC's Self-Assessment in Math (SAM) due to reductions in our course offerings. Because of the deep cuts in the number of sections that we can offer, it's more important than ever to make sure that our students are in the courses where they belong and can demonstrate the best likelihood for success. There was always a chance that some students could misuse or misunderstand the information that they got from SAM and could potentially enroll in inappropriate courses. With improved placement accuracy, students are more likely to successfully complete Mathematics coursework.  We're very sorry for any confusion or inconvenience the changes in our prerequisite policy might cause.
