What is Beacon?

It's ARC's award-winning peer-group tutoring program.

How does it work?

A trained tutor who has successfully completed a course works with a small group of students currently enrolled in the same course. The study group meets 2 hours a week outside of class. Students and tutor work together and learn from each other. As a student participating in the Beacon Program, you will automatically be enrolled in Human Services 1000, a no fee, no grade, no credit class.

What's in it for me?

Students who participate in a Beacon study group...

  • get better grades
  • understand the subject better
  • make new friends
  • pay nothing--it's free!
  • Earn extra credit (not offered in all Beacon courses-ask your instructor).

Ask your instructor if he or she has a Beacon study group for your class. Many instructors also offer incentives, often in the form of extra credit points, for those in a Beacon study group.
