The Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) test is administered to students who do not have a high school diploma (or its equivalent) and are applying for financial aid. Eligible students must be at least 18 years old and must not be currently enrolled in high school. A referral from the Financial Aid Office to take the Ability-to-Benefit test must be presented at the time of testing.
Ability-to-Benefit for students NOT enrolled in an ESL course The ATB-COMPASS test consists of reading, writing, and math. A calculator will be provided. This multiple-choice test is administered on the computer and is not timed. All three sections of the test must be taken in one sitting. Students should allow approximately 2 hours for the session. Ability-to-Benefit for students ENROLLED in an ESL course The ATB-CELSA test contains passages with missing words. For each question, the correct answer must be selected to complete the story or conversation. This multiple-choice test is paper/pencil based and is timed for 45 minutes.
