Basic Law Enforcement Academy
The Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center is certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) to present the Regular Basic Academy in an Extended Modular Format. The Academy is designed to provide contemporary and practical classroom presentation of legal concepts, hands-on training in police tactics and weapons usage, and scenario-based learning activities. Participants in this course will engage in physically demanding training exercises that include a risk of injury. Prospective students must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid CA driver license, obtain medical clearance, and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance letter.
Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional class sessions may be held on Fridays or Sundays.

NOTE: Completed application packets may be turned into the Sacramento Regional Public Safety Training Center's Administrative Office, located at 5146 Arnold Avenue, McClellan, CA 95652, by the posted deadlines.
- Module III consists of 226 instructional hours. Upon successful completion on Module III the student will receive a Certificate of Completion and 9 units of lower division elective credit and may apply as a Level III reserve duty with a participating law enforcement agency.
** Subject matter includes but not limited to: professional orientation, community relations, criminal law, laws of evidence, communications, vehicle operations, force and weaponry, traffic enforcement, First Aid/ CPR, criminal investigation, custody, physical fitness, and defense techniques.
- Module II consists of 307 instructional hours. Upon successful completion on Module II the student will receive a Certificate of Completion and 11 units of lower division elective credit and may apply as a Level II reserve duty with a participating law enforcement agency.
** Subject matter includes but not limited to: property crimes, laws of arrest, community relations, criminal law, investigative report writing, laws of evidence, force and weaponry, traffic enforcement, criminal investigation, custody, physical fitness, and defense techniques.
- Module I consists of 497 instructional hours. Upon successful completion on Module I the student will receive a Certificate of Completion of the Regular Basic Course and 17.5 units of lower division elective credit and may apply as a Level I reserve duty or full-time regular law enforcement officer with a participating law enforcement agency.
** Subject matter includes but not limited to: victimology, crimes against children, juvenile law and procedure, ABC law, patrol techniques, crimes in progress, handling disputes/crowd control, unusual occurrences, missing persons, traffic collision investigation, people with disabilities, emergency management, lifetime fitness, arrest control./defensive tactics, firearms, interview and interrogation, and courtroom testimony.
