ABOUT THE RESPIRATORY CARE PROGRAM

Admission to the Program:  Every Spring Semester

# Applied / # Admitted:  150 / 30 students

Length of the Program:  2 years

Prerequisites:  BIOL 430 & BIOL 431 (Anatomy & Physiology), BIOL 440 (General Microbiology), PHYS 310 (Conceptual Physics), AH 110 (Medical Language for Health Care Providers)

Background and drug screening are done once you are accepted into the Program.

There is no waiting list in the Respiratory Care Program.  Every year is a new application process.  Admission is based on a computerized random selection process from among qualified applicants.  Only students who meet the educational and prerequisite requirements and follow the pre-enrollment procedures will be considered for the program.  Meeting all these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

Full-time study is demanded in the Respiratory Care Program as classes range anytime from Mondays to Fridays; clinical externships ranges from 1 to 2 days a week, 8 to 12 hours per day; daytime, afternoon, or night shifts are required.

HOW TO APPLY TO THE RESPIRATORY CARE PROGRAM

  1. Fill out an application form.  You can get the application form by downloading it from this website once it is available, or you can get a hardcopy in the Health and Education Division Office (HEED Room 770).
  2. Make an appointment with an ARC Counselor.  You can contact the Counseling Office by calling (916) 484-8572.
  3. Download and print out the RC Curriculum Planning Summary Sheet and bring it with you to your Counseling appointment.  The RC Curriculum Planning Summary Sheet is a requirement that you will need to submit with the application form.  Failure to include the RC Curriculum Planning Summary Sheet will disqualify your application form.
  4. Selection is based on a computerized random selection process from among qualified applicants.  Only students who meet the educational and pre-requisite requirements and follow the pre-enrollment procedures will be considered for the program.  Meeting all these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
  5. All transcripts regarding High School and College transcripts should be addressed to the Counseling Office.

The ARC Respiratory Care Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
