Dementia: Behaviors and Activity

Gerontology 430 Activity Coordinator Certification   6.5 Units

Prerequisite: None.

Advisory: ENGWR 102 or 103, and ENGRD 116 with a grade of "C" or better; OR ESLR 320 and ESLW 320 with a grade of "C" or better.

Hours: 117 hours LEC

Description: This course covers the role and responsibilities of an Activity Coordinator in long-term care facilities. Topics include interviewing and counseling techniques, hearing and speech changes, social and psychological forces of aging, effective leadership skills, dementia behaviors, etiology of illness, community agencies and resources, needs-based programming, documentation at State and Federal levels, and creating an activity program. Pass/No Pass only.
