Activities & Additional Support
The STEM Center offers tutoring services Monday through Saturday in a variety of subjects. Feel free to come by for Calculus support or just work with your friends, but make sure to sign in.
In the fall of each year, our center coordinators assist students with the application process, proof reading personal statements and keeping students aware of impending deadlines.
Scholarships & Internships
In addition to keeping a list of available STEM Scholarships and Internships on our CANVAS webpage, the STEM Center works to identify new scholarships/internships and provide support to students throughout the application process.
Professional Development Workshops
As students prepare for careers in STEM fields, we provide workshops related to professional development, ranging from assistance with resumes to bringing in people from industry to talk with students.
Every semester the STEM Center goes on field trips to universities and locations of interest to STEM students.
Happy Valley Leadership Retreat
Each Spring, MESA selects up to ten active members to attend a weekend retreat in Santa Cruz, which focuses on developing the skills needed to be a leader on campus and in your profession.
Each semester, the STEM Center has students fill out grade reports with their instructors. Students are then rewarded for this with a gift card or some other support opportunity.
At the end of Spring Semester, the three Los Rios MESA/STEM programs hold an event to celebrate the transfer students and scholarship recipients. All are welcome to attend, and free food is provided.
Counseling in the STEM Center
To better support students, the STEM Center has a designated STEM Academic Counselor who spends time each week in our center.
MESA Guests: Faculty, Campus Reps, and More
In addition to having faculty visit the center on a weekly basis, we also have a number of guests each semester, including through the Work Experience and Internship Program and UC Davis Representatives.
Mathematics/Chemistry Boot Camps
Prior to the beginning of each term, the STEM Center holds a workshop series for math and chemistry students to prepare them for the semester.
