Together Toward Tomorrow

Gerontology is the study of adults at all ages. It includes the psychological and physiological changes that touch each individual, as well as the social implications that flow from these changes.  In essence, it is a study of you.  Never before n the history of mankind have we experienced our population living this long.

American River College has gained a reputation as a leader in gerontology studies and has been awarded National Program of Merit Status by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE), making it the first community college in the nation to receive this honor and one of only eight colleges and universities so designated in the country.

The Gerontology program at American River College offers specialized training for employment in businesses and agencies that provide services for the elderly, and/or preparation for upper division work in gerontology. ARC has gained a reputation as a leader in gerontology studies. We co-host events with AARP, California Council of Gerontology and Geriatrics (CCGG), and UCD Family & Consumer Sciences. This leadership has enriched its offerings and enhanced the career value of an ARC gerontology degree or certificate.

For more detailed information on the above Gerontology degrees, certificates and course requirements, go to the Program Overview page or Gerontology Department College Catalog
